Legal information and specific referencing

01

We are available to answer any questions related to immigration and refugee law through individual meetings (by phone or email). If we do not offer the specific service you need or if you are not part of our target population, we can refer you to the appropriate resource (legal representation, help filling out forms, apartment and job search services, emergency food and shelter, etc.). We have a list of trusted lawyers in all areas of law, as well as a list of partner community organizations.

We provide you with legal information on various immigration law topics, such as:

  • Asylum applications and appeals, such as the refugee status application process or appeals following a negative decision on refugee status (including applications for permanent residence on humanitarian grounds);

  • Family reunification for accepted refugees;

  • Inability to sponsor due to domestic violence and Temporary Resident Permit (TRP) for victims of domestic violence;

  • Removal proceedings

  • Criminality

  • Regularisation proceedings

If necessary, we analyze your situation in relation to other areas of law in order to provide the most comprehensive and complete legal support possible. Please note that during our meetings, we do not provide legal advice, but rather legal information. We also help social workers, community workers, and medical staff understand their clients' immigration situations.

JUST SOLUTIONS

The first clinic of its kind in Quebec

For 20 years, Solutions Justes has been working to improve access to justice by providing free information, support, and representation services in refugee and humanitarian immigration law.

Just Solutions has been a pioneer in this field in Quebec and has built a strong reputation as a key initiative for access to justice in humanitarian immigration law. It often serves as the last legal safety net for immigrants and refugees, for whom immigration status plays a crucial role in their vulnerability and precarious situation.
Socio-legal support

02

This service follows on from our specific information service. If necessary, after initial contact through our information and referral service, we can assist and support you in facilitating your legal proceedings with the institutions. Our team is made up of lawyers and social workers, with the aim of providing the necessary socio-legal support to our clients, who are often faced with very precarious situations. We can also assist our clients with applications for financial assistance, access to health services, etc.

This support can take different forms and last for a long time,  ranging from a single day to several weeks or even months.

Administrative Representation and Support

03

Depending on our availability, the complexity of the case, and the accumulation of vulnerability factors, we can represent a limited number of people per year before administrative institutions only, such as IRCC (Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada), MIFI (Ministry of Immigration, Francization, and Integration), etc. We do not represent clients before a tribunal or court of law, such as the Federal Court, the TAQ (Quebec Administrative Tribunal), or the IRB (Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada).

We primarily represent individuals in highly vulnerable situations with complex cases. Our areas of expertise include applications for Permanent Residence on humanitarian grounds (for example, after an asylum claim has been rejected), family reunification, and Temporary Resident Permit for victims of domestic violence.

In exceptional cases, we can also represent clients for their PRRA (Pre-removal risk assessment), applications, requests for removal deferrals, complaints to the United Nations, requests for reconsideration by the CBSA (Canadian Border Services Agency), work permit applications, visitor visa applications, visitor record documents, applications for reinstatement of status, etc.

Cases handled as part of our representation service may take several months or years to resolve.

Roger Snelling

A clinic to increase inclusion and independence for seniors in Quebec.

Roger Snelling is Just Solutions' mobile clinic that helps low-income immigrants and refugees aged 55 and over, as well as seniors born in Canada.

It specializes in providing information, support, and representation in immigration and administrative law. It uses an interdisciplinary approach and relies on the support of social workers, doctors, and other community professionals.

In order to offer the most accessible service possible, this legal clinic was designed as a mobile clinic. This means that our team is available to travel to meet the needs of our clients.

In the same cases as Solutions Justes, Roger Snelling offers representation services to seniors who face multiple vulnerabilities.

Administrative Representation and Support

A legal clinic accessible to everyone

Although no specific conditions are required to access our services, our clients are primarily immigrants and refugees with precarious or no immigration status, such as refused asylum seekers, refugees or protected persons (particularly those separated from their children and/or family members), stateless persons, asylum seekers, or immigrant and refugee women who are victims of violence (including domestic violence, family violence, sexual assault, etc.).

Most of our beneficiaries face multiple vulnerability factors, such as mental health issues, disabilities, experiences of domestic or sexual violence, or financial insecurity. Our clinics provide legal services to inform these individuals, equip them with tools, guide them through the legal system, help overcome systemic barriers, and regularize their status, while also offering listening and support. Our staff are trained in law and/or social work.
