The Why of the Danaïdes Activities
The Danaïdes’ activities are concentrated on the issues faced by a group we have been defending for over 20 years, and which is often ignored or stigmatized: im·migrants without status or with precarious status, as well as refugees. We seek to organize activities for and by this population, with the aim of promoting the sharing of knowledge, expertise, and stories, thereby contributing to and informing this debate.
These activities take place in an increasingly critical context, within a public debate undermined by prejudice and a lack of understanding of the daily reality of im·migrants, as well as the very meaning of immigration status. That is why the objectives of our activities are primarily aimed at improving understanding of issues related to humanitarian immigration.
We firmly believe that healthy communication, listening, and understanding others are essential keys to improving the lives of this population, the procedures (at both the federal and provincial levels), and, ultimately, the well-being of society and social inclusion.

Who are the Danaïdes ?
A tribute to the first migrant women
In Greek mythology, the Danaïdes are the daughters of Danaos who crossed the Mediterranean to escape a forced marriage. Their feat is the first recorded story of a group of people fleeing an unjust situation to a foreign land.
By using this name, we want to pay tribute to the women and men we have been assisting for many years, who flee unjust situations to come to a foreign country in search of a better life.
